The birth place of Mozart, known for movie "SOUND OF MUSIC"...which was shot here!! Below is the picture taken by me from the Salzburg fort.
Salzburg is a land of great architecture & beauty.
Hohensalzburg fortress also known as Salzburg Fort, is the largest fort in central Europe
This is the track for funicular or inclined railway that goes up & down the hill from Salzburg fort. Its a wonderful experience. The view of city from above is mesmerizing.
The charming, rustic, old town. It has coffee shops, cute souvenir shops & quaint dining places. Also, for vegetarians there were mouth watering veggie burgers with Indian style patties & salad.
While touring around the city of Salzburg, you will come across this giant chess board on ground which people can play. The area has music & shops around. A fun place to enjoy during the day.
VISIT HELLBRUN PALACE & GARDENS & enjoy the water surprises of TRICK FOUNTAINS, placed all over the gardens....u can get wet anytime anywhere....be careful!! An exciting place to visit.
Hidden in the shade of bushes and trees or jetting out from unexpected hiding places - the world-famous Wasserspiele have been the main attraction at Hellbrunn for almost 400 years.
Austria is a great place to visit. It has the best food, great architecture and serenity.

"Thoroughly recommend, it is a beautiful country, and nice people. I loved Salzburg, a lot to see and do in this city of contrasts, but please be warned... The local people get upset when tourists ask, which is:- "Where are the kangaroos"? And they reply, "this is not Australia". Now they make t-shirts with the message on the front, "No kangaroos in Austria".
The old town of Salzburg is a great place to visit especially when the Mozart festival is on. Cheers and Happy Travels. Lou
If you have visited any city in Austria, please write about it in comments and I shall post it for all to enjoy.
Travel Idea: by Louis Hashman:
"take a trip to a place with a very unusual name, a small town/village called "Fücking", then 35 kms northeast of Slazburg; yes Trendsetters this is a real place, a lot of people go there just to say they have been to this unusual named place. The town people were getting upset as tourists go there and steal the town name signs, so now they are set in concrete, and also have TV cams to protect the signs from souvenir hunters. A very scenic place; the restaurant serves a good schnitzel, and also an apple stroudle with vanilla sauce. Bon appetit.... Lou
