The 1st thing that comes to our minds is HOLLYWOOD!!!situated in city of Los Angelos....a land of movie stars, TV artists and beautiful sun tanned Californian girls....lovely beaches & hills too. No one can miss this sign when in Hollywood. I visited this place about 7 yrs back when residing in central California. We drove to all the lovely places shown below in our 2 yrs stay.
Stroll on the famous Hollywood Boulevard & see the "Walk of fame" where movie stars have placed their names on star shaped tiles placed on the walking path. You can stand on them or near them & have your pics taken.

Visit the city of SanFrancisco or SFO: (towards north)
The famous Golden Gate Bridge on San Francisco Bay, the longest suspension bridge in the US at the time. Its very windy & cold here, esp. when standing on the bridge....remember to hold on to your scarf or shawl if on the bridge.
Remember the famous movie "King Kong" where the gorilla climbs up to the top. Some other movies have also been shot here.

Below is the famous Lombard Street or "crooked street" where you can have fun driving down this crooked lane at the lowest speed possible. you can also walk down the stairs provided on the sides.
The dramatic YOSEMITE FALLS at Yosemite National Park in central eastern CA
These massive roaring falls are in 2 parts: the upper & lower falls. We had to hike for atleast 20-30 min to reach near to the base of the falls. In rainy season they are a wonderful sight. We enjoyed the cool water spray of these gigantic falls & will never forget the experience. Be VERY CAREFUL of the slippery rocks as many get hurt including me.

Burney Falls (below) is a waterfall on Burney Creek, in McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park, Shasta County, California (north of SFO). The water comes from underground springs above and at the falls, almost 130 ft tall. Its a beautiful sight. One has to take a hike down the hill to reach a pool of water with this magnificent view of falls coming out of holes in the hillsides.

Amazing view while driving north to Southern Lake Tahoe, a beautiful lake surrounded by mountains where skiing is common in winters. (Note: the north Lake Tahoe comes in Nevada state)
Sitting on the snowmobile at Lake Tahoe. Definitely worth going.
The scenery is unbelievably beautiful. The lake below is crystal clear & one can see the reflection of the mountain tops clearly.

Further up north is Mt Shasta....a snow capped peak. Great place to roll in the snow, do skiing & enjoy the landscape. You can visit the huge Shasta Dam & take a boat ride in the Shasta lake.
Driving further north on the border of N. California & in the state of Oregon is the amazing CRATER LAKE....a crystal blue lake formed by falling of a meteor, surrounded by snow capped mountains. Its just breathtaking.
